Checkin'

Well, Logan and I went a bull sale today, and I ended up going home while Logan waited to load up what he bought.  I got home and was making myself a little snack when Logan calls me and asks me to walk outside to check on a baby calf that was born and check on everything else while I was out there.  So, I did what I was told, keeping everything in line!

These mama's really love me!!

Farm Girl Tip # 78: Even if the wind is blowing and it's a little chilly, go check the heifers so you can continue to get pink ear tags!!

What A Cutie

When I was at school today, Logan had a new baby! I pulled up into the yard in my car and stopped to talk to Logan.  He told me to meet him out in the barn because he had a surprise for me! I told him I had to go change and then I would be out there.  I walked out there and here is the surprise! A new calf!! This one is the cutest of them all so far...and the biggest!!  He is so cute, and deserves a pink ear tag!

Farm Girl Tip # 77: Always go see the new surprises in the barn when you get home! They are the best!

1st Day Of School

Today was my 1st day of school as a student teacher, and it was AWESOME! I definitely chose the right profession to go into!

Here is my 1st day of school picture!

I'm Still A Magazine Model

If you remember from last year, I ended up being in a bull sale magazine.  Well, turns out I am in the 2014 bull sale magazine!! I guess I just look so good that they can't keep the camera off of me! Their bull sale magazine wouldn't be complete without my face in it!!

Here I am circled in the red! (Logan is next to me, but I accidentally cut him off when I was circling myself! :) OOPS!)

Farm Girl Tip # 76: Always go to the bull sale so you make sure you are a model for their magazine! Also go just for the delicious free food! :)

Good Morning Farm Style

These past week, there have been some really pretty sunrises while I am driving to Aberdeen.  As I was leaving the farm this morning, I was pulling out of the driveway and was absolutely amazed by the sunrise that was peaking over the hay bales.  I had to stop to take a picture of this breathtaking view!

Farm Girl Tip # 75: This is one reason I absolutely LOVE farm life!!

Super Bowl Surprise

Logan and I decided to do something somewhat exciting and went into Mellette to watch the game.  Logan had checked the heifers before we left and noticed that one was about ready to calve.  We were watching the game, and about 3rd quarter Logan checked the cameras on his phone and said we've got to go.  So, we raced home and Logan told me that when we got home I needed to go inside and get Logan's coveralls and hat.  We got home, Logan ran out to the barn and I ran inside.  I got all of the stuff and ran back outside to see that Logan had all of the gates ready to get the heifer into the other barn to pull her calf.  Roger (Logan's dad) showed up to help out, and within 5 minutes there was a new baby in the house!

Here is the heifer ready for some help with her calf.  I was not able to get a picture of the mom and the calf afterwords.  I had to leave so the mom would claim her calf.  Maybe I will get one soon!

Farm Girl Tip # 74: Always be ready to leave your Super Bowl party to pull a calf!!

Goodbye Calves

It's that time of the year again where all of the babies from last year are grown up and ready to leave the farm.  Logan and his crew spent the day yesterday loading up the calves and taking them to Aberdeen.  It is always sad seeing the little ones leave, but there are new calves being born as we speak!

Here are the calves all loaded leaving the farm and at the sale barn.

Farm Girl Tip # 73: When the calves leave the farm, you can ride up to the sale barn to drop them off and say goodbye for one last time!

Goodbye Pinkie

Yesterday marks a sad day in cow life.  Miss Pinkie had her calf! ...but she decided not to claim her calf.  Miss Pinkie walked away from her calf, leaving the bag over the calf's head.  Baby pinkie was not able to breathe, and by the time that Logan got there she was not doing so well.  Later on that night, baby pinkie died. :(  Logan also informed me that Miss Pinkie is going to the sale barn on Monday.  Double :(  So my dream of finally getting a pink ear tag is gone.  No more pink ear tags on the farm!

Farm Girl Tip # 72: Anytime you want a cow with a pink ear tag, make sure to pick the one that will claim her calf.  If you pick the wrong one, it will end up at the sale barn.
