Pinkie

Yesterday, Logan and I finally went out to see my cow with the pink ear tags!!  We took a bucket of corn with us to get the cows to come up to us (hoping to get pinkie to come up to us too).  We rode out on the 4-wheeler and Logan started dumping corn in different spots for the cows to eat.  Most of the herd came up to us, but Miss Pinkie wasn't so sure about all of this.  Actually, she really wasn't sure about me since it was the first time she met me.

Here is part of the herd eating while Miss Pinkie stands far away all by herself!

She is still so cute with her pink tags, but she just needs to warm up to me!

Farm Girl Tip # 63: Always go out and see your cow with pink ear tags so she can get warmed up to you and like you!!

Welcome to the Farm

Well Christmas is over, and I hope everyone had a wonderful time with family and friends.  I spent Christmas Eve with my family and Logan, and spent Christmas day with Logan's family.  I had stopped at the farm after coming back from Watertown to meet Logan, open our gifts and head up to his parent's place.  Who knew that the 15 minutes I spent at home before going to the next Christmas could be so exciting and life changing!!

I had pulled into the driveway, grabbed my duffel bag in one hand and a box of gifts in the other.  I walked into the house and it looked like Logan wasn't here.  His pickup was outside so I knew he had to be around here somewhere!! I set the box down on the table and Logan came around from the corner.  I said hi to him and walked to the bedroom to put my bag down.  Logan was talking to me and following me as I walked down the hallway to the bedroom.  I dropped my bag in the bedroom and turned around. All I saw was Logan on one knee asking me to MARRY HIM!! OMG!! I was shocked and couldn't believe what I was actually seeing! Of course I said yes, and we continued on out the the tree where Logan opened his gifts from me including long johns and thermal socks! HAHA!!

Here is my Christmas present!!

Here is our first picture as an engaged couple!

Farm Girl Tip # 62: There is no tip, just welcome to the farm for the rest of my life!! :)

She's Pink

If you have been following my blog for a while, you know that last year around Christmas time, I bought myself a pink ear tag because I wanted Logan to put the tag on one of his cows.  Well, it took a whole year before that pink ear tag got put to good use! I finally have a cow that has pink ear tags!!

The night before Logan went to go get all of these cows, I had to make all of the ear tags.  I came to mine and I didn't know what to put on it.  I thought gems, hearts, and stars might be the way to go, but I didn't really feel like being the odd ball out.  I ended up putting a number on it just like all of the other tags, but I added a few touches of my own!

They look nice don't they?!

Before Logan went up to get these cows, I told him that I had to have the cutest looking one.  I preferred a baldie because they always have really cute calves! :) So here is my new pet with pink ear tags............

How cute is she?!! Those pink ear tags sure make her look good!

Farm Girl Tip # 60: If you ever want a cow with your favorite color of ear tags, just keep asking for it and a year later it will happen!

Farm Girl Tip # 61: Since this pink ear tag dilemma has been accomplished, I think I need a different color!  Shhhh....don't tell Logan, but my next step is to get a purple ear tag in the herd!

Sale

'Tis the season for sale barns!
Logan had to drag me along with him yesterday to look at a few heifers.  I was really planning on doing nothing yesterday but bake, bake, bake! About 10 minutes before we had to leave, he told me lets go! We have a sale to go to!
--He is really lucky I can get ready in 10 min!!--

We got there, and were only there for about 30 minutes and decided to leave! So much for my full day of baking!!

Farm Girl Tip # 59: Don't plan on having a whole day of baking because you will probably get drug along to the sale barn!

If You Help Me...I Will Buy You Supper

Well it's that time of year again where I get to help out with cattle.  Sunday night, Logan and I were deciding what to do.  Did we want to stay home for the rest of the night or go to Aberdeen and eat.  Well we decided Aberdeen.  Logan said that he had to take a load of open cows up tonight when we went and then he would take the second load up the next day.  Of course, since this was decided, he talked me into helping him sort the open cows and heifers.  If I did this then Logan would take me out to supper. Sweet!

Well sorting was quite the process, but we got it done.  First, I had to follow Logan out to the corn field (because that's where the cows/heifers were at) on the 4-wheeler and Logan took the tractor with the feed wagon.  Once we got out to the field, we switched and I was in charge of driving the tractor up to the lots to get the cows back in their lot. Once that was done, we moved them from their lot to another lot and then into a small alley.  From there, I was on gate duty.  Logan either said cow or heifer and I had to swing the door the right way.  This went well and I didn't mess up, so I didn't get in trouble!!

From there, Logan backed up the stock trailer and we moved half of the cows through to get loaded up to go to town.  The cows went about half way but they did not want to go into the trailer.  So this involved Logan and I yelling at them and hitting their butts to make the move.  That still didn't work.  Logan let them back out to try it again and then they went right in the trailer! Good girls!!

Here I am driving the tractor while the cows follow me to their lot.

Farm Girl Tip # 58: Always help get the cattle loaded up to go to town and you will get to go out for supper! :) What a deal!!
